Just yesterday in the snowy weather i heard one gobbler sounding off at 4:00 pm. Each morning they are sounding off. Just a heads up on the weather. This last week we have had days with 3 inches of snow at night and by mid-day it is all gone. the grass is growing and turning bright green. birds are still grouped but with the up coming weather the bird are sure to start to break up. See you in the woods

August 27 - Sept 3
August 27 I saw 6 cow in the evening.
August 28 I located three cow and a couple of good bulls
August 30 I saw two good 6x6 bulls
Sept 3 My brother, our daughters and I started at about 5:30 am on our scouting trip. At first light we located a herd of about 30 cow and two bulls. The young bull provided us with a couple of bugles. We watched this group go through the trees for about 10 minutes. then they winded us and were off. the rest of the morning we check various area for sign and tracks. all of our location had fresh sign in the areas. At noon we hit a really good area, where we found a couple of active wallows and lots of raked trees. This is sure to be a spot we continue to check.

Elk Out of Velvet
This last week has found the bull elk rubbing their horns to remove the velvet and expose their glory for another year. I saw five different bull that had cleaned antlers. Some were small rag horns and a couple, I would like to find in September or October season.
I have also seen large flocks of turkey out chasing the grasshopper. each group has at least 5 in it with the largest groups having 30 different birds in them. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks i can report that the bull are bugling their annual sounds. The fall bug is upon me, I am hopeful that i will use the up and coming long weekend to get out and check my local hot spot and get some pictures to go along with my typing.
