Elk Out of Velvet

This last week has found the bull elk rubbing their horns to remove the velvet and expose their glory for another year. I saw five different bull that had cleaned antlers. Some were small rag horns and a couple, I would like to find in September or October season.
I have also seen large flocks of turkey out chasing the grasshopper. each group has at least 5 in it with the largest groups having 30 different birds in them. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks i can report that the bull are bugling their annual sounds. The fall bug is upon me, I am hopeful that i will use the up and coming long weekend to get out and check my local hot spot and get some pictures to go along with my typing.

Turkeys Everywhere

Today on the way to work I located over 50 different turkeys. Most were group of mothers and babies. It looks like we had another great hatch this year.
Then on the way home I saw another forty turkeys in totally different places, not even close to the range of the bird from this morning.

August 6-12 report

Well the week started out Awesome. On Monday, my brother was scouting for elk and located 40 elk ranging from cows, calves, and small bull in H2. The were located in an area where water was still readily available. That same day I saw around 40 turkey on the way to work.

Tuesday was also great. I located 6 bulls and five cows bedded. The bulls still had velvet on the antlers, but i expect that to be gone in the coming weeks.

Thursday, produced two separate bunches of turkey. each had about twenty bird in them.

Saturday, I located four groups of turkey. each had about 10 birds. I also saw five whitetail bucks, 10 Doe with fawns. One little buck had a antler broke off.
